Planned Giving

One of the most meaningful ways to invest in the future of Calvary Christian School is through a planned gift as part of your estate or financial planning. Planned gifts can be made through a variety of vehicles, including bequests in a will or trust, charitable gift annuities, life insurance policies, retirement assets, and gifts of appreciated securities.

These thoughtful gifts allow families and friends of Calvary to leave a lasting legacy while helping ensure that future generations of students receive a Christ-centered, academically excellent education. For many supporters, a bequest is one of the simplest and most impactful ways to make a significant contribution to the mission of Calvary Christian School.

We encourage you to consult with your tax, financial, and legal advisors to determine the planned giving option that best aligns with your charitable goals and overall financial plans. Calvary Christian School is also happy to work with you and your advisors to help accomplish your philanthropic and estate planning objectives.

One of the simplest and most meaningful ways to create a lasting impact is by including Calvary Christian School in your will or trust. A planned gift allows you to support future generations of students while continuing to provide for your loved ones and other priorities.

Whether you choose to leave a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate, or a particular asset, your gift helps ensure that Calvary can continue equipping students with a Christ-centered education for years to come. By including Calvary in your estate plans, you are affirming the value of Christian education, modeling biblical stewardship and generosity, and leaving a legacy that will impact lives far beyond your lifetime.

Give from Your IRA and Support Christian Education

If you are age 70½ or older, a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) allows you to make a tax-efficient gift directly from your Individual Retirement Account (IRA) to support Calvary Christian School.

For individuals age 73 and older who are required to take an annual Required Minimum Distribution (RMD), a QCD can help satisfy all or part of that requirement while reducing taxable income. Unlike a traditional IRA withdrawal, a QCD is transferred directly to the charity and is generally excluded from your taxable income.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an SGO?

A Scholarship Granting Organization (SGO) is a nonprofit organization certified by the State of Ohio that receives charitable donations and awards scholarships to eligible K-12 students attending participating schools. Donations to certified SGOs may qualify for an Ohio income tax credit.

What is the Ohio SGO Tax Credit?

Ohio taxpayers who donate to a certified SGO may receive a dollar-for-dollar, nonrefundable Ohio income tax credit. The credit is available for contributions made to qualifying SGOs.

How much can I donate and receive as a tax credit?

Individual taxpayers may claim up to $750 per year.
Married couples filing jointly may claim up to $1,500 per year.

The credit equals the amount donated, up to these limits.

What does "dollar-for-dollar tax credit" mean?

A tax credit directly reduces the amount of Ohio income tax you owe. For example, if you donate $750 to a certified SGO and have at least $750 in Ohio tax liability, you may receive a $750 Ohio tax credit.

Who can donate?

Any Ohio taxpayer with an Ohio income tax liability may make a qualifying donation to a certified SGO and potentially receive the tax credit.

How do SGO donations help students?

SGO donations fund scholarships that assist families with tuition costs, making Christian and private education more accessible for students. Certified SGOs are required to prioritize scholarships for students with demonstrated financial need.

Can I designate my gift to support Calvary Christian School?

Yes. Ohio SGO rules allow donors to designate their gift toward a participating school. Designated funds are used to support scholarships for students attending that school, subject to SGO guidelines and applicable laws.

Can I designate my donation to a specific student?

Generally, donations may be designated to a school, but not directed to a specific student by the donor. Scholarship awards must follow SGO policies and Ohio regulations.

Is my donation also tax-deductible federally?

Because tax situations vary, donors should consult a qualified tax advisor regarding any federal charitable deduction and how it may interact with state tax credits.

How do I claim the tax credit?

After making your donation, you will receive a receipt or acknowledgment letter from the SGO. Keep this document with your tax records and provide it to your tax preparer when filing your Ohio income tax return.

What if I don't owe Ohio state income taxes?

The SGO credit is nonrefundable, meaning it can reduce your Ohio tax liability but does not generate a refund beyond the taxes you owe.

Why should I participate?

Your donation allows you to:

Support Christian education.
Help families afford tuition.
Invest directly in students' futures.
Potentially receive a dollar-for-dollar Ohio tax credit.
